Belgian Minister Marks Algeria’s Liberation Anniversary in Brussels
Belgium’s State Minister for Asylum, Migration and Social Integration, Anneleen Van Bossuyt, attended a diplomatic reception in Brussels on November 5, 2026, to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of Algeria’s Liberation Revolution. The event underscored growing institutional cooperation between the two nations, particularly regarding migration governance and economic exchange.
Anneleen Van Bossuyt, Belgium’s State Minister for Asylum, Migration and Social Integration, participated in a formal diplomatic reception in Brussels on November 5, 2026, marking the 72nd anniversary of Algeria’s Liberation Revolution. The gathering, hosted by the Algerian Consulate General, brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the Algerian diaspora to commemorate the outbreak of the independence war against French colonial rule on November 1, 1954.
During her address, Minister Van Bossuyt extended official congratulations to the Algerian government, leadership, and citizens. She emphasized the steady development of bilateral ties between Belgium and Algeria, underscoring the value of expanding operational cooperation and deepening institutional partnerships between the two sovereign nations.
The reception was organized by Consul General M’hammed Sahnoune and Ambassador Mohamed Lamine Bencherif. It served as a venue for bilateral dialogue, attracting academics, medical professionals, business leaders, media representatives, and social figures active within the Algerian community in Belgium. Consular officials noted that beyond honoring the historical legacy of the liberation struggle, the annual event reinforces connections between the Algerian diaspora and their home country.
Diplomatic relations between Algeria and Belgium have expanded in recent years through ongoing institutional dialogue, trade discussions, and bilateral cooperation regarding migration management, social integration, and economic exchanges. The public commitment by Belgian leadership to expand these partnerships indicates continued collaboration on shared policy priorities.
Enhanced diplomatic channels between Brussels and Algiers are anticipated to assist joint efforts regarding migration governance, social integration policies, and regional trade partnerships between Western Europe and North Africa. Regular formal gatherings facilitate collaborative projects across specialized sectors, particularly within academic research, healthcare initiatives, and cross-border commercial ventures.
