Jordan Bardella's Wealth and Financial Transparency Under Scrutiny
French National Rally leader Jordan Bardella’s financial profile has shifted dramatically, with recent reports indicating his wealth has crossed the million-euro threshold. This surge is largely attributed to substantial royalty payments from his published works, a development that contrasts sharply with his political origins and has sparked debate over transparency standards for elected officials.
French National Rally (RN) President Jordan Bardella’s financial standing has undergone a significant transformation, with recent reporting indicating his net worth has surpassed the one-million-euro mark. This shift is primarily driven by substantial income from book royalties, a development that contrasts with his public narrative of humble origins and has raised questions regarding transparency obligations for European Union officials.
According to calculations by the French daily Libération, Bardella’s annual income surged to 775,210 euros in 2025, a sharp increase from less than 100,000 euros in previous years. This figure includes his monthly salary of 11,255.26 euros as an MEP, plus 4,950 euros in monthly expenses. However, the most significant contributor to this financial leap is his work as an author.
Bardella’s publisher, Fayard—controlled by businessman Vincent Bolloré since 2023—released two books featuring his insights: "Ce que je cherche" in November 2024 and "Ce que veulent les Français" in October 2025. Libération reports that Bardella earned approximately 730,000 euros from these publications over two years. The second book alone sold more than 109,000 copies, according to data firm GfK, generating additional royalties.
This financial reality stands in stark contrast to the image of a politician rooted in working-class communities. Bardella was raised in Seine-Saint-Denis, a department known for its social challenges, yet he now resides in an upscale Parisian suburb. Since 2020, he has owned a 60-square-meter apartment in Garches, Hauts-de-Seine, valued at approximately 370,000 euros. The area is historically not a stronghold for the RN.
The reporting also highlights discrepancies in Bardella’s transparency declarations. His last "declaration of private interests" submitted to the European Parliament on April 8, 2025, did not mention payments from Fayard. EU rules require MEPs to declare any paid activity running parallel to their mandate if it exceeds 5,000 euros gross per calendar year.
Bardella reportedly provided more detailed information to France’s High Authority for Transparency in Public Life (HATVP), but with a delay. He declared an advance of 88,068 euros received in 2024 and 640,147 euros received in May 2025. A new declaration reflecting substantial modifications is currently under review.
When contacted by Libération regarding these financial details, Bardella declined to comment.
