Arizona Tribune - Ireland head coach Farrell extends contract until 2031

Under Farrell, Ireland have won two Six Nations titles, including one Grand Slam, and achieved a historic first series win in New Zealand in 2022.

Last year, as British and Irish Lions head coach, he guided the side to a series win in Australia.

The IRFU said in a statement that the Englishman had "overseen a period of sustained success and evolution" in the role.

"I am incredibly proud to continue this journey with Irish Rugby," said the 51-year-old.

"It is a privilege to work with such a talented group of players and staff, and to represent the supporters whose passion and unwavering support drive this team forward and inspire us every time we take the field.

"What excites me most is the increasing strength and investment in pathways and the quality of talent coming through."

IRFU Chief Executive Kevin Potts described Farrell as a "truly world-class coach and an exceptional leader who has helped shape Ireland as one of the most exciting and consistent teams in the world".

Farrell, named World Rugby's coach of the year in 2023, joined the Ireland set-up in 2016 and replaced Joe Schmidt as head coach after the 2019 World Cup.

He is one of the most highly regarded coaches in the game and had been linked with English Prem side Saracens and England.

One of the main tasks for the former rugby league legend -- he also played for England in rugby union -- will be to guide the Irish further than the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history, in Australia, next year.
