African players in Europe: Injury may end Salah's Liverpool reign
Egypt star Mohamed Salah may have played his last game for Liverpool after limping off during a 3-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Salah has announced he will leave the Reds at the end of the season, ending an iconic nine-year spell on Merseyside, featuring Premier League and Champions League glory.
The 33-year-old forward walked off holding his hamstring just before the hour mark at Anfield in what could be his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt.
AFP Sport highlights African headline-makers in the major European leagues:
ENGLAND
MOHAMED SALAH (Liverpool)
With just four league matches remaining this season, Liverpool boss Arne Slot is uncertain if Salah will be fit in time to say farewell. "We don't know -- that is the best answer I can give," he said. Salah's final season at Liverpool has been marred by his poor form and a stunning outburst earlier in the campaign, when he claimed he had been "thrown under the bus" by the club following Slot's decision to drop him on several occasions. He eventually patched up his relationship with Slot and contributed to Liverpool's climb towards Champions League qualification.
SPAIN
ILYAS CHAIRA (Real Oviedo)
Moroccan winger Chaira gave bottom-of-the-table Oviedo brief hope in their 2-1 defeat by Elche with his third goal in his last five matches. Running onto a long ball, he took a neat touch and then produced a clinical finish to get his side back into the game from two down, but they could not find an equaliser.
UMAR SADIQ (Valencia)
Valencia striker Sadiq scored a crucial goal for Los Che in their 2-1 win over Girona as they battle against relegation. The Nigerian stood up strong at the back post to head home his club's second goal and his second in the last two games.
GERMANY
SERHOU GUIRASSY (Borussia Dortmund)
Guinea striker Guirassy grabbed his 15th league goal this season as Dortmund romped to a 4-0 home win over Freiburg, which secured Champions League qualification. With Dortmund one up and cruising, Julian Brandt lofted a clever chip which Guirassy blasted home. Guirassy has nine goals in his past 12 Bundesliga fixtures.
RAMY BENSEBAINI (Dortmund)
Having set up Maximilian Beier's opener with a lofted pass, Bensebaini headed in a Julian Ryerson corner for Dortmund's third. The Algeria defender has five goals and two assists in the Bundesliga this season.
NICOLAS JACKSON (Bayern Munich)
In the same week Bayern said Jackson was set to return to Chelsea at the end of his season-long loan, the Senegal striker played a key role in a dramatic 4-3 comeback win at Mainz. With Bayern trailing 3-0 at half-time and seemingly set for just a second league loss this season, Jackson blasted in a Jamal Musiala cross to start a dramatic comeback.
