Australia lead England by 46 after 20 wickets fall on crazy day at MCG
What they said as England win 4th Ashes Test - reaction
England won a breathless fourth Test in Melbourne on Saturday by four wickets inside two days for their first Ashes match win in Australia since the 2010/11 series.
AFP Sport picks out some of the best reaction:
"It's been a massive effort from everyone, and to come out on the right side of the result feels really special. It means a lot."
-- England captain Ben Stokes
"Tricky one. Quick game. If we'd managed that extra 50 or 60, we probably would've been right in the contest at the end."
-- Australia captain Steve Smith
"The way we went out today was exactly the right way to chase it down, you can't allow good bowlers to land it in dangerous areas. I thought we were courageous in the way we operated."
-- Stokes
"When you see 36 wickets fall in two days, that probably tells you it did a bit more than intended."
-- Steve Smith on the MCG wicket that has received much criticism
"Obviously to lose the series is very disappointing but it was really important we showed a lot of character for the rest of the series."
-- England batsman Joe Root
"Five-for on Boxing Day, it's what dreams are made of. Barmy Army were unbelievable."
-- England's man-of-the-match Josh Tongue
"It was lovely to come in and have an impact, and what matters most is that it contributed to a win."
-- England's Jacob Bethell, who was playing his first Ashes Test
"So pleased for all the England fans .. they are the best .. incredible noise echoing around the 'G' .. Bloody brilliant fans .. #WeAreTheArmy"
-- Michael Vaughan, former England captain on X
"This England team does your head in. They are so good on their day, and so bad when they are not."
-- Graeme Swann, former England spinner on TNT Sports
"There is a bittersweet feeling, and it is a bit after the Lord Mayor's Show. But you only have to rewind 36 hours when it was doom and gloom."
-- Former England captain Alastair Cook
