Steelers' Watt in hospital for evaluation of 'lung situation'
Pittsburgh's star pass rusher T.J. Watt was in hospital Thursday for evaluation of his lung after experiencing discomfort at the Steelers' practice facility, the NFL team said in a statement.
Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed to reporters that Watt's status for Monday's game against Miami was uncertain, although he had few details on the player's condition.
"I'm a little bit cautious about what I say, because I am not a medical expert," Tomlin said. "But to make a long story short, he was experiencing some discomfort when he was at the facility yesterday. So, we took him to the docs (doctors) and they're going through some procedures. He stayed overnight in the hospital.
"He has a lung situation that's being addressed. I think he has some testing and so forth ahead of him this afternoon, and that's all I know at this juncture.
"He and I communicated last night, he was comfortable, and that's all I have really at this point."
Tomlin said he didn't know what sparked the discomfort or when it began, and to his knowledge Watt was not dealing with a significant injury.
Watt had six tackles and a quarterback hit in Pittsburgh's win over the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday.
He has played in all of the Steelers' 13 games this season and has seven sacks. At 7-6, the Steelers entered this week leading the AFC North division by one game over Baltimore.
