Saints sign defender Granderson to record NFL deal

New Orleans Saints defensive end Carl Granderson, snubbed by every NFL team in the 2019 draft, has signed a four-year contract extension with the club, the team announced on Saturday.

Text size:

The deal, valued at $52 million with $35.3 million guaranteed according to multiple reports, is the largest guaranteed money for any undrafted NFL defensive lineman.

The 26-year-old Californian has made 107 tackles in 56 career NFL games with 17 sacks, a pass deflection, a fumble recovery, three forced fumbles and a blocked field goal.

Granderson has started both games this season at right defensive end for the Saints, who carry a 2-0 record in Sunday's contest at Green Bay. He has six tackles this season with a team-best 2.5 quarterback sacks

His solid start comes after a career-best 2022 campaign in which he had a career-high 53 tackles, including a career-best 5.5 sacks.

Granderson signed with the Saints in May 2019 as a free agent but two months later pleaded no contest to sexual battery and unlawful contact from a 2018 incident involving two women. His sentence was suspended in August 2019 and he was placed on a year's probation.

Granderson signed a two-year contract extension with the Saints in March 2022.
