Britain considers 2027 state visit for Ukraine’s Zelensky
The UK government is preparing for a possible state visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2027, although officials say the plan has not been finalised.
The proposed visit would be intended to demonstrate continued British support for Ukraine in the fifth year of its war with Russia. Its timing remains undecided and is not expected to coincide with the G20 summit in Manchester next November, to which Zelensky has also been invited.
A traditional state visit includes ceremonial events and a banquet hosted by the monarch, but officials are considering a programme suited to Zelensky’s position as a wartime leader. He could also address Parliament, as he did in 2023.
Zelensky has travelled to Britain about 13 times since Russia’s full-scale invasion. His previous meetings have included talks with successive prime ministers and King Charles III.
