Flamengo secure 0-0 draw in La Plata in Copa Libertadores semi
Reigning champions Flamengo will take a 0-0 scoreline back to the Maracana next week after stifling Estudiantes de La Plata in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores semi-final on Thursday.
Argentine outfit Estudiantes, the only non-Brazilian team left in the final four of South America's premier club competition, had the better of the chances on a frustrating night in La Plata.
But the stalemate means they will have an uphill task in Rio de Janeiro if they are to break a streak of seven straight wins by Brazilian clubs since Argentina's River Plate triumphed in 2018.
Estudiantes approached the game with more ambition, but lacked precision in the final third against a Flamengo team happy to sit deep.
The winner of the second leg will face either Palmeiras or Fluminense in the November 28 final at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Palmeiras have the upper hand in the other semi-final, after beating Fluminense 2-1 away on Wednesday.
Palmeiras -- who lost to Flamengo in last year's final in Lima -- host the return leg next Wednesday in Sao Paulo.
Flamengo are seeking a fifth Libertadores, following their victories in 1981, 2019, 2022 and 2025.
