India declare on 503-9 after Jurel hundred

Dhruv Jurel's second Test hundred helped India reach 503-9 before declaring their first innings in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Monday.

Jurel, who resumed on his overnight score of seven, endured some nervous moments on 99 before reaching the milestone with a quick single.

He was involved in a 112-run stand with Rishabh Pant for the seventh wicket as India piled on the runs after electing to bat first.

Pant, who was forced to retire hurt after copping a blow to his forearm on day one, returned to the crease on Monday and rushed to an aggressive half-century despite being hit several more times.

Devdutt Padikkal, adjudged man of the match in the first Test with scores of 167 and 44, continued his good form with 117 despite being reprieved twice early in his innings.

Captain Shubman Gill also chipped in with a half-century as India strengthened their position.

Asitha Fernando was the pick of Sri Lanka's bowlers, finishing with four wickets.

Fernando and India opener Yashaswi Jaiswal were fined 25 percent of their match fees following their heated exchange on the first day.

The pair almost came to blows before their teammates intervened.

India lead the two-match series 1-0.
