Arizona Tribune - Bompastor extends contract as Chelsea Women's boss despite slump

Chelsea are set to miss out on the Women's Super League title for the first time since 2019 after a 5-1 thrashing by leaders Manchester City last weekend.

But Bompastor, who joined from Lyon in 2024 following Emma Hayes' departure to the United States Women's team, has still been rewarded with a new deal.

"The renewal of her contract reflects our confidence in her leadership, vision and the stability she brings to the club. There is still much to play for this season as we continue to fight to win all the major trophies," Chelsea sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said.

Bompastor, 45, achieved a domestic treble in her first season in 2024-2025, winning the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Women's Super League.

However, Chelsea have struggled this season and sit 12 points behind Manchester City with just eight matches remaining.

Bompastor refused to accept the title race is over, saying: "Our success as a team is based on our determination, resilience, and intensity, and we settle for nothing less than victory.

"We still have many battles to fight; we are engaged on four fronts and we will give everything, every day, to make our supporters proud."
