Tschofenig takes overall Four Hills lead after second leg win

Austrian ski-jumper Daniel Tschofenig won the second leg of the annual Four Hills tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Wednesday to move into the overall lead.

It marked a first World Cup win for the 22-year-old, who was third in the opening leg in Oberstdorf at the weekend.

Fellow Austrian Michael Hayboeck produced the biggest jump of the first round at 145 metres, but Tschofenig collected the highest score of 151.6 after a leap of 141.5m.

He then flew to a 143m jump in the second round for a score of 147.3, and a winning total of 298.9 points.

It was good enough to send him 8.6 points clear of second-placed Swiss jumper Gregor Deschwanden with Hayboeck in third.

Tschofenig tops the standings which currently has the Austrians sweeping the podium, with Jan Hoerl 7.9 points back in second and Oberstdorf winner Stefan Kraft a further 0.8 points off the pace in third.

The Four Hills now switches from Germany to Austria with the third leg in Innsbruck on Saturday and the final leg in Bischofshofen on January 6.
