Odermatt sizzles in Garmisch to extend overall lead

Swiss Marco Odermatt returned to the winner's circle at the super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Sunday, extending his lead in the overall standings with his ninth win of the season.

Pushed off the podium for just the first time this season on Saturday, Odermatt produced a blistering run, winning 0.30sec ahead of second-placed Austrian Raphael Haaser.

Swiss Franjo von Allmen finished third, 0.61 off the pace.

Running two slots after then leader Vincent Kriechmayr, Odermatt shaved more than half a second off the Austrian's time to take a clear lead.

Hoping to reel in Odermatt, Haaser took several risks on a pulsating run but was unable to beat the Swiss' time.

The 22-year-old von Allmen beat Kriechmayr's time by just three hundredths of a second to claim third place and join his countryman Odermatt on the podium and force the Austrian into fourth.

Odermatt now leads with 390 points in the overall standings, 121 ahead of second-placed Kriechmayr.

Haaser picked up 80 points, leapfrogging Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin who did not finish on Sunday.

On Saturday, France's Nils Allegre was the surprise victor, beating out the favourites to claim his first ever win after 102 World Cup starts.

Italian Guglielmo Bosca, also finishing on the podium for the first time, came second and Swiss Loic Meillard came third, pushing Odermatt into fourth place by 0.28 seconds.
