Arizona Tribune - Odermatt keeps up winning streak in giant slalom at Adelboden

The unstoppable 26-year-old had put himself in pole position to take his fourth World Cup win of the season in the discipline after dominating the first run.

He led Stefan Brennsteiner by over one second as he sought to add this to his two giant slalom wins in Alta Badia last month and the season opener in Val d'Isere.

As visibility worsened he posted the second fastest run on the last leg for a combined time of 1min 54.06sec for his 29th win on the World Cup circuit.

Norway's Aleksander Aamodt Kilde took second at 1.26sec with Croat Filip Zubcic third at 1.77sec.

The fog had forced organisers to shorten the course at the Swiss ski resort.

As well as his giant slalom success Odermatt also claimed the super-G in Bormio.

He now leads the overall standings by 272 points from Marco Schwarz, who suffered a season-ending injury last month, as he hunts a third World Cup title.

This was Odermatt's seventh successive win in the discipline, surpassing the run of five in a row by Austrian great Marcel Hirscher in Alta Badia on December 18.

Yet he remains well short of Ingemar Stenmark's record streak of 14 straight victories in the discipline between 1978 and 1980.
