Oubre 'doing OK' after being struck by car, 76ers coach says
Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. was "resting fairly comfortably at home" Sunday after being struck by a car, coach Nick Nurse said.
Oubre was treated in hospital and released on Saturday night after he was hit by a vehicle while walking in Center City, Philadelphia.
"He's back home and he's doing OK," Nurse told reporters before the 76ers' game against Indiana on Sunday. "It's a pretty traumatic incident, but he is home and resting fairly comfortably. That's where we are right now."
A police report on the incident said a vehicle travelling "at a high rate of speed" struck the 27-year-old in the chest with the driver-side mirror.
The car fled the scene and he was taken to hospital by fire department medical personnel having suffered a broken rib.
Nurse said he thought Oubre would be able to observe practices with his teammates by early next week, but there was no timeline yet for when he might return to play.
"I think we're going to have about a week go by before we re-evaluate where he's at," Nurse said.
Oubre, an eight-year NAB veteran, is averaging 16.3 points on 50% shooting this season.
Coming off a season in which he averaged a career-high 20.3 points and 5.2 rebounds he inked a one-year, $2.89 million deal with the 76ers in September.
He was taken with the 15th overall selection by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2015 draft and immediately traded to the Washington Wizards.
Oubre has also played for the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.
