Orlando Credit Union Sponsors African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida's 'Coffee & Commerce' Series
About the African American Chamber of Central Florida:
ORLANDO, FLORIDA / ACCESS Newswire / January 31, 2025 / This 2025, Orlando Credit Union enters into a sponsorship relationship with the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida in support of its 'Coffee & Commerce' series. "We are thrilled to engage with the African American Chamber and enable the offering of a series dedicated to the betterment of community and growing business across Central Florida," stated David Duncan, C-Suite VP of Marketing, Communications, and PR, at Orlando Credit Union. "We have these moments where what we do, makes a difference, and both Orlando Credit Union and the African American Chamber of Commerce are committed to giving back and giving more to the communities we serve, in part through event series such as this," added Duncan.
The African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida ("the Chamber") is a membership organization serving public, private, and not-for-profit African American-owned businesses and organizations in Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties. For over seven decades, the Chamber has served its members as an advocate and resource. Established in 1945, the Chamber is a members-only network devoted to cultivating a thriving business environment for African American companies, an engaged public awareness for minority firms, and education and advocacy for both members and the Central Florida community.
About Orlando Credit Union's History:
On April 1, 1936, the Orlando City Employees Federal Credit Union was chartered based on a petition signed by 32 employees of the city. It opened for business in a closet on the second floor of Orlando City Hall with an initial deposit of $160. City of Orlando employees volunteered as credit union employees during volunteer hours. As it grew, the credit union hired employees as permanent staff to replace the volunteers and serve its members.
On January 21, 1974, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) approved the name change to Orlando Federal Credit Union. This change also signaled the beginning of an expanded membership base. Our credit union grew to allow members to join from throughout our community, such as citizens and employees of Orange County, Orlando Utilities Commission, the City of Winter Park, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and Lynx. Today, we offer our services to everyone who lives, works or worships in Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Volusia, Brevard, Polk and Hillsborough counties and the businesses in these counties.
October 1, 2019, marked a historical moment for our credit union; we officially became Orlando Credit Union. By a majority vote at the special meeting held September 5, 2019, the membership approved to convert from a federally-chartered credit union to a state-chartered federally insured credit union. This change signaled the beginning of an expanded membership base beyond Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties, to include Volusia, Brevard, Polk and Hillsborough counties.
